M.S. Electrical Eng.
Master's Program in Electrical Engineering with option in Electro-Optics
The M.S.E.E. is intended for students with a baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering or other related fields. Admission requirements include a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester hours of the bachelor’s degree and a minimum combined score of 1000 in the quantitative and verbal portions of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). For students with a degree from international institutions, a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required. Students with a grade point average of less than 3.0 may be admitted on a trial program basis in some circumstances. Additional courses may be required to correct any academic deficiencies. Articulation Undergraduate articulation courses may be required for students with BS degrees in fields other than electrical engineering. The articulation courses will be determined by the graduate coordinator in consultation with the student’s faculty advisor on case by case basis.
Degree Requirements The thesis option requires of a minimum 30 semester hours of approved course work including a maximum of 6 hours of thesis credit. At least half of the required credit hours must be at the 6000 level. An approved program of study is chosen in consultation with a faculty advisor. The program must include at least 9 credit hours in electro-optics from OSE-5111, OSE-6211, and OSE-6560 or equivalent. The students must one course (3 credit hours) from two other areas including; communications, controls, DSP, electromagnetics, electronics, or solid state and microelectronics.
The non-thesis option requires a minimum of 36 semester hours of approved course work. Program requirements are the same as the thesis option except that the thesis requirement is replaced by 12 hours of course work. Students are required to pass a final comprehensive examination.
