"Development of multiphoton ionization circular dichroism technique for the study of ultra-traces in aqueous solutions and analysis of chirality in optically active systems"
This paper will present the results gathered and limitations encountered while attempting to collect the first multi photon ionization circular dichroism spectrum. This novel technique takes advantage of nonlinear properties to excite electrons off a substance in order to reach regions of the electromagnetic spectrum and create an ion current that can be detected and analyzed for important structural properties. The molecule tested in the experiment was a complex organic compound that could possibly exhibit the appropriate chiral structure to be utilized in the creation of left handed metamaterials. We have successfully proven that it is experimentally possible to detect an MPI-CD signal for this compound and upon further improvement of technique and systematic error, provide new knowledge on how this and many other substances could be practically applied.  ...full text
