Structural Stability of Optical Experiments

Abstract:

Structural stability is important for optical experiments, especially when high resolution and repeatability requirement is involved. Vibration caused by various sources in and around the lab may impact the results of your experiments. Knowing what the sources are and how to avoid them will help to construct a structurally stable experiment; Moreover, optical tables and other elements supporting your applications also contribute to the overall stability. The role of mass, stiffness and various damping techniques will be presented with some interesting real world application examples. The talk will be focused on practical tips and advice for researchers to build their experiments with vibration control and isolation in mind, to achieve better results in their research.
