Prof. Marion J. Soileau has been chosen as the first recipient of the ICFO Distinguished Service Appreciation Medal. This honorable distinction is awarded to an individual or institution that has shown outstanding dedication to the development of ICFO, through actions including external council, exceptional commitment to the Institute or any other form of collaboration which may merit special recognition.

Prof. Soileau currently serves as Vice President for Research and Commercialization at the University of Central Florida. He served as the first director of the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL) before being named vice president in 1998. He has served in ICFO’s Scientific Advisory Board since the creation of the Institute.

During ICFO’s most formative years (2000-2001) Dr. Soileau was one of the Institutes most valued advisors. During the years of growth that have followed, he has been one of the most active members of the Scientific Advisory Board, offering continuous guidance and council. His most significant contributions to ICFO have been in the areas of institutional organization and in matters of technology transfer. ICFO’s Board of Trustees considers Dr. Soileau’s dedication and service to the Institute both generous and exceptional.
