UCF announces proposal to build $1.5M optics laboratory on campus
From the Orlando Sentinel
, December 12, 2012:
"The University of Central Florida is planning to build an optics laboratory where faculty and students would research and manufacture materials for high-powered lasers and other equipment used in the high-tech fields of optics and photonics.
A committee of the university’s board of trustees will meet Wednesday to discuss changing UCF’s master plan to accommodate the approximately 4,500-square-foot facility. It would cost an estimated $1.5 million.
The optics lab would go up near Building 154, a research facility for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering that opened earlier this year on Neptune Drive.
Officials do not yet have an estimate for when the building would open. The project is still in its planning stages. Trustees have to approve the change to the master plan before the project can move forward."
