To qualify for housing in The College of Optics and Photonics space as part of the Photonics Incubator program a
company must satisfy the following criteria:
- Meet all requirements for and be accepted as a tenant in the UCF Incubator Network.
- Have a research relationship with College of Optics and Photonics faculty where some aspect of a faculty member’s
research is funded.
- Be fully aware of and have resolved beforehand any potential conflicts between the company in the incubator and
existing relationships between College of Optics and Photonics faculty, staff and students and other companies or
agencies.
- Recognize that if a faculty member has a conflict of interest, as defined by Florida statutes, with the company
seeking to be housed in incubator space at the College of Optics and Photonics, this could be a disadvantage to the
company’s application for such space.
- In addition, a company seeking Photonics Incubator space must:
- Explain why it should be on campus instead of managing its activities off campus in other facilities of the UCF
Incubator Network. For example, explain why the company needs regular access to faculty and students as well as to
facilities of The College of Optics and Photonics.
- Explain its existing and future involvements with The College of Optics and Photonics.
- Explain how it will pay for use of facilities and instrumentation at The College of Optics and Photonics. Companies
accepted to the Photonics Incubator space are required to give a review of progress and plans every 6 months to a review
committee composed of CREOL faculty and of UCF Incubator Network staff. After each review, an assessment will be
made by UCF as to whether the company continues to meet all the criteria for the Photonics Incubator space. If the
criteria are not satisfied, a mutually agreeable exit plan will be established, not to exceed an additional 6
months of occupancy in the Photonics Incubator. A company in the Photonics Incubator space will, when
seeking additional time, be in competition with other companies that might be seeking such space.
