Arnaud Royon graduated in 2009 from the University of Central Florida’s College of Optics and Photonics and the University of Bordeaux – LOMA (Laboratoire Ondes et Matière d’Aquitaine), under a Ph.D. cotutelle program between both Universities. Arnaud Royon’s dissertation work on "Nonlinear femtosecond near-infrared laser structuring in oxide glasses" resulted in Ph.D. degrees from both institutions.

Following his Ph.D., he pursued work in different laboratories of the University of Bordeaux (UB) as a Research Scientist on new glassy optical materials and ultrafast laser direct laser writing techniques for their functionalization. This work resulted in the formation of a spin-out company from UB’s innovation center, Alphanov, and in December 2012, Argolight was established to commercially develop this technology for biosciences applications.

As a result of Argolight’s progress, in January 2015, Dr. Royon was awarded the Jean Jerphagnon Prize for "Excellence in the field of Optics with industrial applications." The prize aims to recognize a young researcher (less than 40 years old) whose research work in optics or photonics has permitted the creation of a company, a new product in an existing company or a new research team in an academic laboratory. Dr. Royon’s efforts in establishing Argolight and the development of a calibration slide for fluorescence microscopy and its technological transfer to Argolight, resulted in the award.

Arnaud Royon is one of the co-founders of Argolight, where he currently serves as CTO, in charge of production and R&D programs. Argolight specializes in the optical marking and engraving of stable fluorescent objects in 3D inside transparent materials. Argolight exploits this know-how to address the market of the calibration, monitoring and quality management of fluorescence imaging systems, for the fields of pharmaceutics, clinical diagnosis, biosciences, and forensics.
