Biography

Sasan Fathpour joined the CREOL faculty in 2008. His current research interest include heterogeneous integrated photonics, mid-wave infrared silicon photonics, optical delay lines and radio-frequency photonics on silicon, hybrid integration of III-V compound semiconductors and silicon, and energy efficiency in silicon and III-V photonics.  Prof. Fathpour received the NSF CAREER award in 2012 and the ONR Young Investigator Award in 2013.  He has received UCF's Reach for the Stars Award in 2015, the university's Teaching Incentive Award in 2013 and the College's Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award also in 2013. He is a senior member of IEEE, OSA and SPIE.

Professor Fathpour received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2005. He then joined the Electrical Engineering Department of UCLA as a postdoctoral fellow, where he received the UCLA Chancellor’s Award for Postdoctoral Research and was promoted to a Visiting Assistant Professor in 2007. Prior to joining CREOL, he worked at Ostendo Technologies Inc. for 8 months as a Senior Researcher.

Sasan Fathpour is the co-editor of a book entitled "Silicon Photonics for Telecommunications and Biomedicine" published by CRC Press in 2012. He is a co-author of over 130 journal and conference papers, book chapters and patents.
