Faculty Position: Photovoltaics (PV)

CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida (UCF), invites applications for a tenure-track junior-level faculty position in the area of photovoltaics (PV). The successful candidate will be expected to teach and establish a vigorous funded research program. A doctoral degree from an accredited institution in a closely related field is required.

The position is part of a recent UCF Cluster Initiative to establishing a university-wide, multi-disciplinary team of faculty and students, the Resilient, Intelligent and Sustainable Energy Systems (RISES) cluster. Through partnerships among university, utility and government stakeholders, RISES aims to facilitate deployment and integration of renewable energy resources, as well as provide innovative solutions that make electricity grids self-organizing, efficient and resilient. More details can be found at our cluster website Candidates are expected to have direct experience in PV cell and module research, with an ability to effectively collaborate with the downstream system-level researchers of the RISES cluster.

CREOL offers PhD and MS degrees in optics and photonics, and a BS degree in photonic science and engineering. The faculty engages in research and education in fields utilizing radiation extending from millimeter waves and THz to UV and X-rays. The technologies developed include lasers (ultrafast and high power); optical fibers (microstructured and multi-materials); semiconductor and integrated photonic devices (quantum-well devices, photovoltaics, silicon photonics, plasmonics, nanophotonics); nonlinear and quantum optics (discrete solitons, nonlinear networks, nonlinear surface waves, quantum information); and imaging, sensing, and display (imaging through scattering media, polarimetry, and liquid crystals). Applications of these technologies to communication and information technology, biology and medicine, and energy are pursued. A successful partnership with industry has been a strong asset for the College.

Candidates must apply online using a link on the cluster webpage, and include supporting documents such as a curriculum vitae, statement of research plan, and names of three references. For more information about this position, please contact Professor Winston V. Schoenfeld, Search Committee Chair ( Candidates are encouraged to apply early since down-selection and the interview process for top candidates is expected to be made in early Summer 2016.
