Welcome New Optics Majors and CREOL Fellows

On August 16th and 17th, The College welcome the 2006 class of Optics Majors and CREOL Fellows. We would like to welcome all students back to UCF and wish them a very productive graduate education experience.

Check Out Our New Website Design

We are proud to announce that the CREOL website has a new look and a new feel.  The new site made its world debut in July.  The new site is part of the continued effort to let the world know how dynamic our research efforts are here at CREOL.  The new site design is centered around the theme of "Creating the Future of Optics and Photonics."  That phrase has never been more true than it is today as we proudly display the research of our outstanding Faculty, Student Body, and Administrative Staff.

Many thanks to Courtney Lewis and Deon Frank who led the way for this project.  Also a thank you to the committee members who volunteered their time review the site.

In short, if you have suggestions about the new site, please let us know. dfrank@creol.ucf.edu

Visit us at www.optics.ucf.edu and see our newly redeisgned web site.

JAMES HARVEY TO WORK ON WEATHER INSTRUMENT DESIGN FOR 2012 NASA LAUNCH

Professor James Harvey of the College of Optics and Photonics and Assistant Professor Richard Eastes of UCF's Florida Space Institute are designing an ultraviolet imaging spectrometer that would give scientists a better view of how space weather affects the earth. The instrument also promises to open up more avenues for fellow researchers to send experiments into space more quickly.

The grant will allow the team of researchers to design the instrument for a program called Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disc, or GOLD.

KUEBLER AND GROUP RESEARCH FEATURED ON COVER OF AVANCED FUNCTIONAL MATERIALS

Steve Kuebler, Assistant Professor of Optics and Chemistry and graduate students Y.S. Chen, Amir Tal, and Brit Torrance were featured in the journal Advanced Functional Materials where they report on a method for preparing conductive and optically silver-coated polymeric microstructures having virtually any 3D form.  Read more at: http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/abstract/112749352/ABSTRACT

COSTIN E. CURATU AWARDED THE 2006 WILLIAM H. PRICE SCHOLARSHIP IN OPTICAL ENGINEERING
Congratulations to Costin E. Curatu who has been Awarded the 2006 William H. Price Scholarship in Optical Engineering by SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering. Costin is a graduate student working with Professor Jannick Rolland.  His research interests  include optical design for head-mounted displays, eye tracking and vision optics. His main research project focuses on the integration of eye-tracking capabilities within Head Mounted Displays (HMD). Costin plans to use his scholarship to purchase optical design books, to attend SPIE's Optics & Photonics symposium, a Summer School on Adaptive Optics, and take an introductory course in LightTools.
