The College of Optics & Photonics invites applications and nominations for an endowed professorship in Biophotonics. This is part of a major State of Florida and UCF campus wide initiative in the biosciences, nanosciences and a Medical School. CREOL and the new Florida Photonics Center of Excellence (FPCE) are centers within The College of Optics & Photonics. An applicant or nominee should be an internationally recognized scientist or engineer and among the worlds leaders in biophotonics. The successful applicant should hold a doctoral degree.

The University of Central Florida is a major metropolitan university with 45,000 students and growing. Other major UCF units relevant to FPCE include active Molecular Biology and Microbiology and Chemistry departments, a rapidly growing Biomolecular Sciences Center with bioscience infrastructure, an Advanced Materials Processing and Analysis Center (AMPAC) with characterization facilities including advanced microscopy, and a Nanoscience and Technology Center. Very recently the State of Florida has awarded a Medical School to UCF. These new initiatives involve more than 70 new faculty lines. Thus, there will be significant opportunities to partner with other units and researchers. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional vision, energy, commitment and leadership skills, foster interdisciplinary research and education, and will build a strong extramurally funded program in coordination with industry and government.

CREOL was established in 1987 as the State University Systems Center of Excellence in research and education in optical sciences and engineering. CREOL led to the College which was established in 2004 and has 25 academic faculty members and 150 graduate students. It is housed in a state of the art 123,000 sq. ft. building dedicated to optics research and education and equipped with over $40 million of state of the art equipment. Additional information on the College is available at www.creol.ucf.edu.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, statement of research plan, and names of three references to:
