My Work Place
Pradeep Srinivasan obtained a PhD from the College of Optics and Photonics/CREOL/FPCE at the University of Central Florida in 2009. His doctoral work focused on the development of novel optical/ meta-optical devices to engineer the polarization, field intensity, phase and spectrum at the micro/nano scale. As a part of this effort, he developed thin film filters with continuously varying spectral properties by engineering the defect layer in a photonic crystal structures. He conceived and developed resonant waveguide gratings for wavelength tunable beam shaping and graded reflectivity applications by spatially varying properties of 2D photonic crystals. Since conventional methods proved inadequate for the fabrication of these devices he pioneered lithographic methods to create continuously varying gratings on a projection stepper. In addition, he has applied such structures to demonstrate spatial brightness enhancement of broad area diode lasers. He has collaborated with several research groups and developed multimode interference based biological sensors, plasmonic structures for coherent excitation and micro molding of polymer optics in SU-8 using PDMS masters. He has coauthored more than 20 publications in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2003. In his Masters Thesis in the Biomedical Microsystems Lab was focused on the development of arrays of micro machined tapered probes for near-field applications. They were fabricated using a novel self terminating etching method based on the physics of meniscus formation. He was the recipient of the SPIE Scholarship in Optical Science and Engineering for potential long range contributions to the field. His presentations at SPIE conferences won Best Paper awards in 2006 and 2009. He was awarded the Provost Fellowship for the 2003/04 academic year in his Doctoral program. He was a recipient of the Graduate Fellowship throughout his Masters program at the University of Cincinnati. His current research interests include design and fabrication of 3-D micro- and nanooptical elements and their applications laser systems. He is a member of SPIE and OSA.
