Postdoctoral Researcher: Laser Processing of Composite Materials

The College of Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida invites applicants for a postdoctoral associate position. This is a 2-year appointment. The selected applicant will be working on a project in laser processing of composite materials, under the supervision of Professors Xiaoming Yu and Aravinda Kar. The applicant will be responsible for designing, implementing and testing a prototype laser micromachining system for high-speed cutting of thin composite sheets.

Key qualifications:
  • Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Engineering, Physics, Optical Sciences or other related fields.
  • Significant experience in laser material processing.
  • Proficiency in LabView, Matlab, or other coding languages.
Desired qualifications:
  • Knowledge in laser-matter interaction.
  • Experience with ultrafast (femtosecond and/or picosecond) lasers.
  • Skills for free-space alignment of high-power laser.
  • Skills for sample characterization using optical microscopes, SEM, AFM, etc.
  • Good understanding of lasers, optics, and material sciences.
