Arkadiy Lyakh

Principal Investigator
Professor Arkadiy Lyakh earned his B.S. and M.S. in Applied Physics and Mathematics at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. He went on to earn a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering at the University of Florida. He went on to become the Director of High Performance Quantum Cascade Lasers at Pranalytica from 2007 to 2015. Arkadiy joined UCF as an Assistant Professor in the NanoSicence Technology Center and CREOL, The College of Optics & Photonics.

Monas Shahzad

Monas obtained his M.S & PhD in Physics as a Fulbright scholar in University of Central Florida, USA under the supervision of Prof. Robert E Peale.

Matthew Suttinger

Research Assistant
Matthew Suttinger is a Florida native with a B.S. in both Mathematics and Physics, and a M.S. in Optics from the University of Central Florida, with a background in simulation and computational physics. He is currently working as part of Dr. Arkadiy Lyakh’s group studying efficient, high power Quantum Cascade Lasers.

Pedro Figueiredo

Research Scientist
Dr. Pedro Figueiredo graduated with a Ph.D in Physics from the University of Central Florida. He later served as a post doctoral researcher for the group from 2017-2018.

Hong Shu

Research Scientist
Dr. Hong Shu was born and grew up in Sichuan, China. He received his B.S. in physics in 1992 from Nanjing University, Nanjing, China, and received his PhD in Physics in 2003 from CREOL (Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers) of the University of Central Florida. After obtaining his PhD, he has been conducting research in university, doing research and development in industry, and teaching. His work has been focused on optics and photonics. He is the author of numerous published journal and conference papers.
